Burley on Links Wed 23rd May 2001 09:22 With yesterday's link with Andres Mendoza being reported elsewhere this morning George Burley is keeping to his silence. After refusing to be drawn on Pablo Couñago the Town boss continues not to comment on any specific players. |
Seaman Backs Wright Mon 21st May 2001 15:16 England and Arsenal keeper David Seaman has backed Richard Wright to be his successor at international level. Wright has so far made one appearance for the full team in the eventful Malta match last summer. Since then David James seems to have nipped ahead of Wright in the pecking order but Seaman seems in no doubt that Wright is a quality keeper. |
Stewart Not Called Up Sun 20th May 2001 20:06 Marcus Stewart has not been included in Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for the friendly with Mexico. The striker was thought to be the most likely Town player to be involved with Richard Wright off for an operation tomorrow. |
Derby 1 - 1 Town Sat 19th May 2001 18:22 Another last day of the season decider and again other sides failed to do Town a favour. As with Wolves and Blackburn on the last day of the last two seasons both Charlton and Leicester failed to take points from Liverpool and Leeds. Unlike on those occasions Town failed to fulfil their side of the bargain, only managing a draw with Derby. |
Town 2-1 City Tue 08th May 2001 00:07 Appropriately enough, two goals at the North Stand end saw Town to victory and condemned Manchester City to Division One. Exactly a year ago today Town were condemning Walsall to the Second Division while City beat Blackburn Rovers to make Town go through the anguish of the play-offs once more as they entered the Premier League. |
Squad for Monday Fri 04th May 2001 14:11 Town have announced the squad for Monday's game with Manchester City. And Marcus Stewart is in it along with James Scowcroft. |
Lap of Honour Promise Thu 03rd May 2001 15:26 George Burley has promised that his players will do a lap of honour at the end of Monday's game - if fans stay off the pitch. The Blues boss was looking forward to Monday's game which sees Marcus Stewart as a big doubt. |
Stewart Fails to Win Award Mon 30th Apr 2001 10:13 Marcus Stewart last night failed to emulate John Wark as a PFA Award winner when Teddy Sheringham carried off the prize. Stewart failed even to make the divisional XI with Thierry Henry and Sheringham the chosen strikers. Wark won the award in 1981, the last time a Town player was nominated. |
Burley on Injuries and Charlton Thu 26th Apr 2001 16:20 Richard Wright will be back in training tomorrow, but George Burley insists he will not be pushed too quickly. The Town keeper missed out against Coventry with a back injury, but has been improving all week. |
Jamie and Fab in Reserves Wed 25th Apr 2001 10:11 Jamie Clapham and Fabian Wilnis are both in the reserve squad for the game with Derby tonight. The pair have missed out on action recently, Wilnis due to an ankle injury and Clapham down to the good form of Martijn Reuser. |
